Born in Marseille, Frédérique Assaël has been drawing portraits since childhood. After several painting workshops in Brussels, she deepened her practice of sanguine and charcoal, then of oil through the study of the masters (Raphael, Leonardo da Vinci, Caravaggio, Rembrandt). She paints faces charged with mystery and, in recent years, the animal world. Her work pays homage to the memory of painting through quotation, and today explores imaginary, elfin portraits between figuration and abstraction.
