Born in 1963 in Moselle, Emmanuel Bour turned his energy to sculpture very early on, overwhelmed by Michelangelo's Sleeping Slave. He learned lost-wax casting in Burkina Faso and direct stone carving, but wood remains his medium of choice. After years of pear-wood bas-reliefs, his encounter with the sculptor Lim Soo Ngee in 2016 turned him towards figuration: directly carved busts, portraits of anonymous figures that evoke our beliefs and the armour we forge for ourselves.
